Amazing Antique 3D Ship Diorama, Incredible and Whimsical!
This fantastic ship diorama is entirely handmade, right down to the frame, circa early 1900's. It features a 6.5" deep shadow-box style frame, which open via hinge when needed for cleaning. Inside, a 3D ship has been rendered out of wood and hand painted, with an accompanying dinghy and lighthouse in the background. The molded waves form the ocean, and the painted sky with fluffy clouds adds a delightful whimsy. There is a lovely attention to detail, from to the tiny people on the ship deck, to the hand painted wood "grain" on the exterior of the frame. These dioramas were a popular handicraft of the turn of the last century, but few survive today, especially in this size. It retains all it's original features, including the cylinder glass front, and is in overall very good condition with no damage to the interior artwork.
