Amazing Set of 8 1970s Carved Dining Chairs, Made in South Africa
These fabulous dining chairs were made in South Africa, circa 1970s, and feature a hand carved"brutalist style" relief on the back. Reupholstered with new foam and a cream and gold fabric, which is patterned with a similar look to the carving. We believe they are made with yellowwood, often referred to as "sleeper wood" in South Africa, for its extensive use in railway sleepers/tracks. Freshly oiled, cleaned, and in very nice condition with some patina and character marks, these chairs would look great with nearly any kind of table - teak, brass, chrome, live edge, etc. Signed by the artist/maker, "Aquarius" - we guarantee you won't find another set like this anywhere this side of the Atlantic!
