Amazing Mid Century Danish TEAK RECLINER, Beautifully Designed!
This absolutely stunning 1950s teak lounger was made in Denmark by Christian Sorensen for Gorm Mobler, and features a clever and unusual design. While it appears to be a regular lounge chair in it's upright position, one quick flip of the hidden mechanism and it reclines, revealing a little foot rest which extends to multiple lengths as needed. Retaining it's original striking teal and green upholstery, which has been cleaned and new foam installed in the seat for extra comfort.
The frame has been refinished, but has also had some previous repairs to the back legs (which were notoriously weak on this otherwise well-built chair). The repairs were done with strength, rather than aesthetics, at the forefront, so there are metal plates inside the frame to strengthen it, as well as filler in various areas, which we have blended back into the wood. We've coloured the metal plates in brass gold tone, making them blend in better with the original brass hardware (see photo).
This rare piece is an excellent example of the ingenuity of mid century modern function, as is the organic design form - look at that gorgeous curved frame, tapered legs, and aerodynamic arms - it's stunning! A perfect, comfy addition to the home of a dedicated mid century modern aficionado! $1795
