Fabulous 1950s Solid Birch Sideboard by Imperial Furniture of Ontario
This gorgeous solid birch sideboard was designed by the iconic Dutch-Canadian, Jan Kuypers, for Imperial Furniture of Stratford, Ontario. Kuypers called this wave-front design "Helsinki", as part of Imperials' "Contemporary" line of furniture during the 1950s. Made entirely of solid birch, this piece is beautifully constructed with dovetail joinery, and offers three roomy drawers and one cabinet with adjustable shelf. This compact sideboard maintains its original factory finish, which we have sympathetically restored while still leaving plenty of character - it is a 70+ year-old piece, after all! Items from the Imperial Contemporary line are getting harder and harder to find, and they are a wonderful example of Canadian mid century design. This particular one is extra functional, in that it has small footprint while still offering lots of storage options. 52.25"L x 16.5"D x 32.35"H, $1795
