Reupholstered Birch Chair by Canadian Design Icon Jan Kuypers
This beautiful and thoughtfully designed chair was created by Canadian designer Jan Kuypers for Imperial Furniture of Stratford, Ontario, circa 1950s. Kuypers' designs for Imperial were known as the "Contemporary" line, and often used solid birch (as with this chair) and always clean, classic design. This particular chair looks simple at first, but note some special details: how the arm rests are notched out to hold the curved chair back in place, the way the the front legs are cut at an angle which peaks at the seat, and the tapered legs which are continuous and integrated as back supports. We've retouched the frame and had the seat and back freshly reupholstered with a striking seafoam green/blue 100% wool fabric. A very unique and special mid century chair, and a fine example of Canadian design history. $695
