Spectacular Pair of 1970s Lucite Goldfish Lamps, Large Statement Pieces!
These totally unique lamps depict vibrant orange goldfish with white globe bellies, which light up to create a soft glow throughout the sculpture. Made with lucite, they were designed and assembled by Vancouver artist Camilo Apelo-Cruz in the 1970s, and are signed and dated by him inside the base. At the time, the sculptures were not approved as lamps by the governing body, the CSA, due to the way they enclosed a hot incandescent bulb; fast forward to today and we now have LED bulbs, which stay nice and cool and work brilliantly in these pieces! The artist stored these lamps in his home until they were discovered by a local, and we were lucky enough to get two! To our knowledge, these are the only ones to fulfill their true destiny as lamps; others sold in the past are being enjoyed as art sculptures - but this pair has the best of both worlds, in art and function! In very good vintage condition, minor wear from decades of storage and moving. Absolutely impactful and tremendous statement pieces! 24"L x 8" in diameter x 17"H SOLD
