Fabulous Early Victorian Original Profile Portrait in Watercolour

Beautiful example of pre-photography original portrait, circa 1820-1830. These profile portraits were offered by travelling painters, who went from town to town offering affordable likenesses of the "common" man. Due to population centres at the time, these portraits are primarily from the eastern United States and Canada, making them a rare find here in Western Canada (and anywhere, really!) This particular portrait of a gentleman is a watercolour in ebony and metal frame with hanging loop, very typical of the time. In excellent antique condition.
