Sweet 1940s Silk Pagoda Lamp with Motion Cylinder
Charming little silk pagoda lamp made circa 1940s, with motion cylinder inside. Many of these lamps didn't survive due to the delicate nature of the silk, and while this one is certainly worn and faded, it is still intact and functional; in fact the hand-painted paper inner cylinder is in remarkably excellent condition. When using an incandescent bulb, the heat causes the cylinder to rotate, creating a "motion" effect through the corrugated plastic windows in the pagoda. A beautiful and whimsical piece of lighting history, at a time when all things "exotic" were revered. 15"H x 9" in diameter, $145
