SALE! Rare & Reupholstered "Tanker" Chair Designed by Gio Ponti for Good Form
This fantastic mid century office chair features a chunky design of spun aluminum, steel, and iron, all combined to create this iconic "tanker" look by Italian designer Gio Ponti. Originally designed in 1938 for an office building in Milan, Ponti refined the design slightly and sold it to the U.S. market, where it was produced by Good Form of Ohio. This particular chair dates from 1974, and has been reupholstered with new foam and vinyl, with the wheels having been replaced by the previous owners. The aluminum parts have all been cleaned and polished (with plenty of patina remaining), and all adjustment mechanisms are in excellent working order. This is a remarkably comfortable chair, and surprisingly compact given its rather beefy form. A rare find and a fabulous example of Italian modernism. WAS $695, NOW $495
