Rare Mid Century Seating Set by Jan Kuypers for Imperial Furniture
Fantastic and rare matching lounge set by iconic Dutch-Canadian designer, Jan Kuypers for Imperial Furniture of Stratford, Ontario. Kuypers created the "Contemporary" line for Imperial, featuring signature pieces such as these chairs and corner table, with their unique shapes and atomic-inspired styling. Clean, modernist lines were hallmarks of Kuypers' aesthetic, and this compact set in solid birch is an excellent example. All pieces were refinished several years ago, and the chairs reupholstered in a soft but hard-wearing woven fabric in shades of aqua, cream, tan, and chocolate. This set came back to us when the prior owner was changing up their decor, and we are delighted to have them in the shop again!
The chairs are incredibly comfortable, and allow you sink in and relax against the perfectly angled back rest, with the corner table in arms' reach of magazines, drinks, etc. at the perfect height. Finding one of the chairs is pretty rare, but an entire matching set is treasure! These are truly Canadian icons of the mid century, and part of our collective design history! In excellent condition, well taken care of with very minor wear. Chairs are 23"W x 26"D x 30"H at back, seat depth is 19", seat height is 16", Table is 29"L x 29"W x 25.5"H at top level, 16"H at lower level. $2295 / set
