Fabulous 19th century pie safe, beautifully made with rustic punched tin panels! The pie safe originated with German immigrants, who brought it to the eastern United States, where it was adapted as a household staple throughout the 1800s and early 1900s. Designed to keep pies and other baked goods safe from rodents (and sneaky children!), they were usually outside on a covered porch so that the tasty treats could air and keep cool. This particular pie safe appears to be made of pine, with decorative punched tin panels in the doors which ventilate the cabinet. The dovetailed drawer and three interior shelves offer lots of storage for a more modern application, such as bar cabinet, entryway storage, or kitchen pantry. Cleaned, oiled, panels are clear coated to prevent rust transfer, and in excellent repair overall. Lots of patina and age-related wear, as expected from a 150-year-old character piece. 41"W x 15.5"D x 52"H, SALE! WAS $795, NOW $495
